Site visit: PZ Cussons, Salford, TBC

PZ Cussons is a major British manufacturer of personal healthcare products and consumer goods. The level of automation employed at the site is quite leading edge in terms of process control and would appeal ‘in part’ to members involved with EEE & ACSE backgrounds.

Site visit: British Steel, Scunthorpe – TBC

British Steel was recently created when Tata Steel sold its Long Products Europe business. The 2,000-acre site at Scunthorpe is an integrated site – this means the raw materials for steel manufacture are transported to the site, where they are ultimately converted to steel. There is a variety of processing and materials at the site which would interest young professionals. Find out more about the company here. Sign up here.

Site visit: Astoria Theatre Organ Heritage and Restoration Centre, 12th April

Over the last 5 years, The Astoria Theatre Organ Heritage and Restoration Centre has completely restored a 1935 vintage Compton Organ originally installed in the Astoria Cinema, Purley, Surrey and, latterly in City School, Handsworth, Sheffield. The organ is now back to full concert standard, complete with a conversion of the original switches & wires control system, from the console to the pipes, to state of the art digital relay technology and attracts eminent musicians and enthusiasts from across the UK.

This visit will comprise a technical presentation, tour of the multiple pipe chambers and a mini concert on the Compton by a professional organist, there will be an interval with light refreshments. Sign up here.
