Volunteering opportunities over the summer

For those of you staying in Sheffield during the summer break, you may be wondering what volunteering projects are available for you to take part in! Find out more below!

FoodCycle Sheffield blends volunteer time, donated surplus food and kitchen space to create a nutritious 3 course meal for people affected by social isolation and food poverty. Volunteers help by collecting and preparing a three course meal. Volunteers can also help by meeting, greeting and eating with the guests.

HERB  improves the general environment in Broomhall by helping with different environmental projects. Volunteer help is needed with various projects in this area: bulb planting, open space improvement and maintenance,gardening and others as needed. Volunteer days take place every Friday morning.

Broomhall Homework Club supports local children from ages 9-18 with their school work. Volunteers will help by working one-to-one with a child or with small groups of children supporting them with their homework or helping them basic skills activities.

PACT Futures (Prision Advice and Care Trust) work to support offenders,
their families, and the local community. Volunteers will help the resettlement officers
to facilitate interventions in custody and help offenders to maintain family
connections. Volunteers will be supported to work one to one with
offenders and their families to give them the support they need.

Rotherham Foodbank are looking for volunteer to help to increase food donations to their food bank by encouraging shoppers to buy an extra item of food in their shopping and donate it to them. Volunteers will speak to shoppers, hand out shopping lists and take in food. This food will then be sorted and donated to local families in need.

Move More aim to engage 50,000 people from Sheffield in physical activity throughout July 2016.  They are looking for enthusiastic volunteers with good communication skills who are happy to engage with the public. Volunteers are needed to promote and advertise Move More throughout the Cliffhanger event that takes place on the 9th &10th July.

TuffCycle aim to empower homeless people in Sheffield by running employability classes to improve their skills, wellbeing, and employability. TuffCycle equip their participants with the resources they need to make positive change in their lives. Volunteers are needed to support the programme by assisting during masterclasses and activities and also by helping with a few administrative tasks (monitoring, feedback, reviews).

Barnardo’ is one of the UK’s leading children’s charities. Baranardo’s work with children to campaign for better childcare policies and champion the rights of every child. Volunteers are needed to work in the Barnardo’s shop in Broomhill. Volunteers will help by serving customers, organising and pricing stock, designing window displays and assisting with IT/admin tasks.
